What's Charlie Charcoal?

Charlie Charcoal™ is a finely screened, high carbon soil amendment. Unlike most other biochar products, Charlie Charcoal™ has a low pH and high CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) which makes it a perfect addition to alkaline sandy soils.

Charlie Charcoal

Does it help plants?

Charlie Charcoal™ helps retain applied fertilisers in the root zone whilst providing a perfect home for microbial life, assisting the health and vigour of your soil and plants.
Charlie Charcoal™ improves soil wettability and water holding of sandy soil, and increases drainage in clay soil.

Does it last?

In soil, charcoal (biochar) is considered permanent and can benefit the soil for thousands of years. It is highly porous, meaning that it holds onto water and nutrients, and is colonised by microbes. It is a highly stable way of adding humus to sandy soils, and has long term benefits; reducing fertiliser requirements and leaching.

Certified Organic

Charlie Charcoal™ is non-toxic and safe to use for all plants. It is Certified Organic.

Super Tip!

We can also supply beneficial microbes to inoculate Charlie Charcoal™ before using it in your soil. Super charge it by adding liquid nutrients like kelp, fish hydrolysate or worm juice - mix the nutrient liquid with a bucket of water, tip 5 litres of the liquid into a bucket of Charlie Charcoal™ and leave for a few hours before applying.

Or - if that sounds too complicated - incorporate Charlie Charcoal™ into the soil, then give the area a good dose of liquid fertiliser to nutrient charge the charcoal.

(Think of charcoal as a sponge with billions of tiny holes to fill, so nutrient charging your Charlie Charcoal™ will give you great results in your garden much sooner.)
